Bonsoir à tous !

Depuis de nombreux mois, je cherche comment dire "J'ai l'habitude de" en anglais... Oui, je sais, c'est nul, mais je ne connais que "I used to bla bla bla", qui ne fait référence qu'au passé, si je ne me trompe pas.

Comment dire à un Anglophone qu'on a l'habitude de faire quelque chose, c'est quand même pas "I have the habit to do smthg" ?

tu peux dire "I am used to" + -ing
--> j'ai l'habitude de chanter sous ma douche = i am used to singing in the shower

ou lorsque tu as moins besoin de mettre l'accent sur l'habitude (par exemple quand tu utilises "j'ai l'habitude" dans le sens de "en général, je...") , je pense que tu peux tout simplement utiliser l'adverbe "usually" (I usually sing....)

sinon, en troisième version, tu as aussi (j'avoue, je viens de regarder dans le dico ) " to be in the habit of doing something"
--> I am in the habit of singing in the shower

mais bon, c'est quand même ni courant, ni très joli C'est juste pour la culture générale quoi

Just some opinions. Or simply, "I like singing/dancing." which indicates a hobby or habit.
"I am used to" does not refer to a habit, it reflects an opinion on the speaker, which tends to be negative. e.g. "I am used to people smoking". At least, it never means the speaker likes what he is doing/speaking of. "I am used to" = "I get used to", "I'm familiar with".

Both Marie and Chinoise are right. "I am used to" is the literary translation of "J'ai l'habitude de." The phrase "used to" is still used in formal and educated English, and occasionally in common English, e.g., "I am used to dancing when I'm alone," whose French translation would be "Quand je suis seul, j'ai l'habitude de danser." However, "I am used to" is indeed uncommon and, furthermore, it has different meanings. So, to be on the safe side, you should probably translate "J'ai l'habitude de" by "I usually."
