Hello, i'm new (a week ago...) on the forum, and I aggre with Feanim
If it is a formal translation, or someone in who you have a great respect, i would personnally say: Si mon aide vous confère sens et apport, je me ferais un plaisir de vous la donner. I concede, it is quite a high (soutenu?? si quelqu'un pouvait traduire...) language. |

Hi the FD, :-)
if only i had bet! You would have lost! |

Bonjour,
Thanks for all the help and explanations. To tell the truth I do not know a single bit of French. That French sentence is meant to sent to a French that I do not know in person. I am teaching her Turkish and I wanted to tell my thoughts in French to be alittle bit witty. So, I need not to write it in a formal way like writing for business purpose. |

Hi Clarisse and Gerstu
![]() Well actually Clarisse was telling me she is french from france (100% ) she lives in eastern france, in StrasbourgThat's pretty funny because I already thought a couple of people not being french native because of their way of speaking, they were all from eastern France ![]() I guess they don't speak using the same sayings as we do (I am from Paris) She is studying sociology and thus should understand this one: "je suis un français de l'intérieur" ![]() (A joke refering to french recent history) To Clarisee ![]() After a quick look into the french academy dictionnary i got this: conférer: -people talking thinking together -to compare to different things -and yet the way she used it: attribuer accorder (which are actually different from donner) you would rather say "conférer un commandement" for example but not conférer un sens... maybe i am a bit restrictive on this one... who knows? ![]() PS: j'espère que je ne t'ai pas véxée Clarisse, mille excuses si c'était le cas ... and have a nice time over the forums!!!! |
