We don't call MIT as Inst. of Tech. in Mas or of Mas. just because that the place Mas. has integrated into the culture and history of the Inst. Even later on the place Mas. died out from the Earth, the MIT still existed, because MIT itself has been a fame, that fame include the place name Mas.

Like Cambrage or Yale, we do not call those universities as in Cam, or of Cam, nor in Yale, or of Yale., but just as simple as Yale and Cam. directly.
And I'm from Zhengzhou University,
Zhengzhou itself is the present provincial capital of Henan province, China, and it is the location seat of the University, but we call this university as Zhengzhou University in stead of Univ. of ZZ, just because the same reason.
