Bonjour,

Je fais une traduction bénévole de la constitution et des règlements d'un organisme à but non lucratif. Est-ce que quelqu'un peut m'aider avec l'expression « remain on the books » dans la phrase suivante :

Policy statements [énoncés de politique] shall remain on the books for ten (10) years

Merci mille fois!
Pascale

"to remain on the books" means to continue to have effect; does the context indicate that after 10 years the regulations or policies lapse automatically and become null and void unless renewed?
In a slightly different context, that of accounting, something (e.g. an asset) remains on the books for depreciation or taxation purposes until it is "written off".
Hope this helps.

I understood the meaning and that's how I had ended up translating it (rester en vigueur), but I thought there might be a particular way to translate that phrase that I didn't know about.
Thanks very much for your response!
