sinamms is an unknown character at this point

Hi everyone
![]() I told myself it would be a good idea that everyone try to put some saying from his country in this post, and off course try to translate it into english, or if it's already an english saying to explain it (or if possible, to translite in some other languages )I start : Avoir la gueule de bois : it simply mean "hangover" ! If we translate word by word it makes "to have a wood-face" :D (in english do they say "I'm hangovered" to mean it ? :$) Le beurre et l'argent du beurre : word by word it means "the butter and the money of the butter". It means when you want to have something without any sacrifice, to get it easily, it's the translation I make about it ![]() Mettre la charue avant les boeufs : word by word, it makes "Put the plow before the cows" , it's used when someone try to do something before doing the first step of it, for instance : (a very stupid exemple lol sorry i don't find another one) a guy buy a guitar before he took some lessons ![]() it's your turn could you put some english ones ? ![]() |

Hey, I am interested :D
(Euh, est ce que le mot expression prend un accent vraiment???) Here is my contribution: A picture paints a thousand words: It means that a picture tells a story as well as a large amount of descriptive text. The original quotation is 'One picture is worth ten thousand words', Frederick R. Barnard in Printer's Ink, 8 Dec 1921 retelling a Chinese proverb. Know which way the wind blows To understand what is happening in changing circumstances. Well, sayings are easy to find, I just browsed around and found many interesting ones, but as said, what matters is sharing after all :-) |
