Hello to all of you; I would like to know do you have a proverb like "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" in your own language, or do you have some other proverbs for saying "do not be ungrateful when you receive a gift"

There is a French proverb (very close to what Framboise has said) it is:
À cheval donné, on ne regarde pas la bride.

For this sentence "do not be ungrateful when you receive a gift" we can say "não cuspas no prato em que comeste" (literaly, do not spit on the plate that you ate). For the real proverb you added, I would say it is "A cavalo dado não se olha o dente" which I guess it hasn´t got the same meaning of the one that I mention above... Ciao, sflor |

Penso que ambos os provérbios referidos têm basicamente o mesmo significado: não se deve criticar um presente... |
