Olá Arehdel,
Ao olhar para os dois provérbios não me pareciam estar ligados... agora está mais claro. Até à próxima! sflor

In greek we say the contrary: "he was given a donkey and he was looking at his teeth!" to express ungratefulness:
"του χάριζαν γάιδαρο και τον κοίταγε στα δόντια!" The meaning is the same. Have a good day and keep smiling!

Hello, Natasha!
I heard similar expression in Russian, darennomy koniu v zuby ne smotriat. One shouldn't look into the teeth of a horse that was given to one as a gift, right? I think my English translation is cumbersome and too long, has to be better wording for that. But what it means is that you should accept a gift as it is without looking and finding defects on it. ![]() You got me here as well, I was just trying to think of my own Qazaq equivalent for this proverb...................... Hello abu_dana,
Russian and languages of ex Yugoslavia countries are Slavic languages and some words are very similar. If I listen them very good than I understand more what they are talking about. About gift you get and there is something wrong: you have to open it in front of the person that gave to you. That is polite. So you can comment after. Sometimes people give something just for a joke and you can be very bad surprised. Nice day, Natasha
