Default why sneezing?

But why do people pay so much attention on sneezing? We don't say "god bless you" whan somebody is coughing - why's that?

I believe that the English expression arose during the Great Plague of 1665. Because sneezing is a typical symptom occuring at the beginning of an infection, it came to be regarded as a sign that the person had contracted the plague and was therefore likely to die. So people would say "[God] bless you..."
