Praying to the porcelain god

Another of my favorite words; one I discovered yesterday in a book, and that I liked a lot. Let me use it in a sentence:

"What he did yesterday had not been smart. He regretted it as soon as he got up:
at 7amhe was on his hands & knees, praying to the porcelain god"

(those who know it, please let others have a chance at guessing the meaning.)

il était assis sur le " trône" ( les chiottes) en porcelaine, bien entendu

, et faisait ses besoins.

Faire ses offrandes à la nature !!!
