i suppose in terms of economic importance and number of speakers it must be like:
- chinese
- arabic
- english
- spanish
- german
- russian
- japanese
- hindi / urdu?

but on a more personal, emotional level i would say, each small and endangered language is important, especially those which have suffered or are still suffering from the dominance of those big languages.

1. The most spoken languages are: Chinese, Hindi, Spanish and English.
2. The languages that are official in a lot of countries are English, Spanish, French and Arabic.
So, only English-1 and Spanish-2 are very important (they are in both lists). Arabic-3, French-4, Chinese-5 and Hindi-6 are also important languages.

Most of us have problems with languages that count more than 10 cases, that's why we skipped Estonian too.

the languages that are most important to me:

1)English (my language)
2)Polish (I don't speak it but it is still very close to my heart...heritage and what not)
3)French (I'm studying it now)
5)Spanish (I feel bad that I can't communicate with my neighbors, but if I spoke this language, I could!)
4)Russian (because of the great novels that come from there)
5)German (why not?)
6)Icelandic (I do love Bjork)
7)Gaelic/Irish
8)Chinese
9)Japanese
10)Turkish (my sister instilled in me a great love for Ataturk...)
11)Latin
...that's all I can think of!
