Default Dead languages, how important are they?

I take it if you learn a dead language you wil understand what makes modern languages live or die...
What do you think?

Languages don't die : they evoluate and are progressively transformed until a new language appears.

Strictly speaking, Latin is not dead, for instance : it still lives in French, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, etc. When one studies it and speaks all these languages, it is quite clear.

Not understand them without being taught, for Latin and Spanish, French, etc. are not the same, but it's easier to learn them.
