Salut Joe Gold,

sflor

French is a very beautiful language and furthermore is very useful too. That's why i'm trying to learn it! :D

And I find german a very interesting language, and I will study it also someday. It's as useful as french, but more difficult. I find it because french is a romance language like portuguese (my native language), these two languages have many features in common.

Olá Procedure!

I know already French , I studied it at High School and at University and French is one of my working languages . ...

I agree with you, German is quite difficult and I think I won´t be able to learn it at my age now .

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion with us. Good luck with French!

Regards,

sflor

I wish to learn so many languages I wonder if i will have the time to learn all. Really, the reason I want to learn is because each country and its people are so very interesting to me. So learning its language is a first step to learning about the country. the language I'm exposed to everyday is English and I think I am good at it because I love to read, since young. So now, I am looking for something else to be proficient in (to able to watch the movies, read novels in that language) but I think it is not easy! I wish I had started when I was younger!

I had a chance to learn french as a foreign language in school but I did not take it up! now I regret it! because to learn french now I have to pay for the lessons and it is not cheap! about US $300 for 10 lessons and now I am working I do not have so much time to learn!

I also want to learn turkish because I would love to go there again and again because I love the country!

I would love to learn Arabic because then I will know the meanings of the doa's and the surahs that I recite in prayers everyday!

I would love to learn Korean because I think Korean people are nice and I want to go there some day too!

I learnt German as an elective in uni but i have forgotten it because no chance to practice!

I'm really interested in learning Ancient Greek, because I plan to study philosophy and Greek is THE language of philosophy and the beginning of western literature.

Then, I really want to improve my Russian, which I have been learning now for quite a while but speak nearly nothing.

Other languages I'm interested in are:
Korean - due to family reasons
Latin - again, philosophy
Maybe another slavic language (I'm interested in Czech and Bosnian, because I could imagine to live in these countries - and besides, slavic languages are just beautiful)?
Usbek - random, but I want to travel to Uzbekistan. I don't know why, but for some reason I'm really interested in this country and its culture.

To be honest, given the time and the talent I have for languages, I will probably not get to far in this list. I want to be fluent in Russian and be able to read Ancient Greek, other than that I will see what I can learn later.

Is the age a really influent factor on the learning of a new language?

I took a look at your public profile, sflor, and I saw you are 32 years old. You are not so old as your message makes it seems!

Regard that when you get older, you will think: "Now I'm too old for learning languages. Why don't I studied german when I was a 32 years old young man?!"

Olá Procedure !

Thanks for your kind words! In fact, you´re right, starting to learn a new language now it´ll be the right decision to make.

Actually, my only problem is time... I would like to spend more time in learning a new language and go forward with it without having to stop or interrupting it from time to time. I´ll see if I can manage my schedule !

Um abraço!

sflor
