I study languages at Uni. Last year I did french and spanish for my fresher year and im going to continue doing both but I want to pick another langiage for my third option...but I can't decide between Italian or Portuguese. My uni also offers Czech, Russian, Polish, German and Hebrew. Would you recommend any of these. I did German in school for 6 years, but came to the understanding that I prefer to learn romance languages, but im not opposed to any of these others. What do you think?? I cant decide

As an ignorant about languages
I can say:My suggestion is about Italian...ehehehe...!! Perhaps because I'm italian! I'm obviously joking!French, Spanish, German....I think with Italian you can complete the whole Mediterranean's area languages!! I think Russian is an interesting language...but your choice depends on what would you like to do with this new language: work? travel? any strange passion for a specific country??

Well, considering that you already speak several world spread languages, you can comunicate with almost anybody. So, my recomandarion for you is to learn to speak some "exotic" language, some wich isn't spoken by most of people, that way you'll be very diferent from otheres, plus you coul always find some very interesting job ofers...

Well, I guess portuguese is in-keeping with the Hispanic Studies theme, but i don't know whether I'll ever go to a portuguese-speaking country- my specific country fascination is Cuba (hence the spanish, hehe:D). But there's something charming about Italian. Also, this is gonna sound rllllly bad but there is a girl I reallllllllly didn't get on with in the year below me at high school coming to do Italian at the same uni. So we'll both be in first year Italian cos we've never done it before- lol *handbags at dawn* :S

Chosing a language isn´t easy... but since your preference goes to romance languages I recommend Italian... Portuguese it´s the hardest romance language that I know ... that´s what all portuguese speakers say about it.We can also consider that Portuguese and Spanish are closer somehow... but there are differences indeed!... If you´ve already a good command of Spanish... why don´t you try Portuguese !Well, I don´t want to interfere in your decision, it´s up to you! See you! sflor

I don't speak both of the languages, but I can say if I have to choose I would choose Portugese. I don't like the pronouncing by Italian, it's overdone.
