Default Watching TV

Do you often watch TV? I've quit watching TV since I got a computer.
You can get information from internet faster than TV, and TV looks like old-fashioned media any more.
Especially young generations say so.
Yet TV watchers are still a majority but most of them are older people here in Japan.

How about you and in your country?
Do you rely on information from TV?

well
i have seen your words ,in my opinion watching TV is a good way for learning .you know ,in china ,every home has a tv or even more , people used to watch tv before go to bed ,especially in country. because people in country do not have much amusements.they spend much on watching tv .tv is play a important part in our lives. but sometimes ,i prefer computer to tv ,when i got a computer i spend much less time on tv , i think computer is more useful than tv, we can play games ,send message , talk with other paople and also can watch tv , so i like computer more .

Is there a possibility for people in the country in China to have a computer in the near future? What a huge market for WXXXXXS and MXC!

And I understand your kind caring for people with the lack of amusement in the countryside. I hope they'll have computers to email with friends who live in the distant places, and to have a fun on internet, too!

Hello,

I'm afraid the majority still watches TV every day. TV can be interesting if one has the possibility to watch many channels and interesting programs.

Here in Belgium we have 3 Flemish (dutch speaking) channels of which at least 2 are interesting and 2 Wallon (french speaking) channels, plus different channels of Great Brittain, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Luxemburg, Spain, Italy, Turkey and some commercial channels... So I guess TV IS useful, as long as one has enough choice of programs.

Of course if one needs specific information, the internet is the best way to find it.

About age : that is true. Youngsters have tendency to be more in front of their computer than to watch TV.

You seem to be very critical of watching TV.

In the case of TV, a way of getting information of receiver(watcher) is completely passive and it's done by vision and sound, it's one of effective ways to brain-washing, I'm afraid of it.
Contrary, you have a lot of chances to visit hundreds of internet webpage which is more independent than TV.
Instead, the decision what information you rely on and judge its correctness is attributable to each individual, I think. It's much better than TV.

FQ, I must say your avatar is cool!

I don't watch TV, not because I dislike it, but because I don't have time.

In my childhood, I watched a lot of TV programs, most of them were impossible for me to understand at that time. When I went to school since several years old, TV became one thing unimportant, while studying occupied most part of my schooling life until graduation from University.

After work, I usually rest a little to read books, but not TV, because TV programs now are mostly not interesting, there are spams and soap operas or comics, and TV is less informative and more time-consuming. I prefer books to TV.

As to Computer generalisation in China, I'm confident that in the near future, every Chinese household should have a Computer, because computer is becoming part of household electrical appliance. It's replacing radio and TV.

The current situation is, in rural towns, there are many cybercaffes or what we say "Web Bars", but in small villages, that fact is not as such, because Telecom does not reach their business out there, nor farmers' income achieve a new high. So we need time to witness that miracle!

Hello!

With TV, the way of getting information is indeed passive and can be brain-washing in countries where the government is controlling the press.
Of course, even where press is free one can still get influenced in one way or another, but that is up to yourself. You can, e.g. watch the news bulletins on different channels (and of different countries) and formulate your opinion afterwards.
I have the habit of doing that and for additionial information I turn to the internet, and I don't feel like someone is brain-washing me.
