I used "Russia" to make it short (in fact old Russia) as it is actually Belarus, Ukraine and probably a bit of Lituania (?)...
I use the names that should be used in French. Very few people know that in French Gdansk is Dantzig, Brno is Brunn (German: Brünn), Marlbork is Marienbourg (German: Marienburg) or Bratislava is Presbourg (German: PreBburg) and so on... actually, you have to know polish people like Kajtek are very proud and suceptible about names for cities that were used by occupation countries like germany or russia. By the way, the names you speak about are german, and not french

The polish names are translations and in French geography we have our own names (of German origin). Unfortunately people are ignorant and do mistakes.
