Joe Glod, I really don't have in mind right now some words...but it is one that really makes me think...what about "cişmea". I know in bulgarian we say "cişmeto" (sorry for the writing
 ) for the romanian "chiuveta, robinet de la bucatarie..". But this "cişmea" gives me the impression coming from turkish. Which is the truth? Any idea?Thank you. Last edited by eva_; 03-18-2006 at 06:08 AM. |

Dear Eva, i want to tell you that: the word „cişmea” have a turkish provenience „çeşme”; we have take a lot of words from turkish because in past we have big problems with the turkish domination. I tell you that because the roumanian have many words from another languages; this is a result from the migrations. Valahia (today Roumania) is a very old country and it wasn’t a lot of people who desire to dominate this land; for this reason we have loan a lot of words from this nations: russian, bulgarian, turkish etc. Hi Joe Gold!!! Congratulation for your knowledges about my language, you have right about the grammar and vocabulary. P.S. I want to beg excuses about my english, but i don’t speak very well this language, i hope you understand what i want to tell here. So, I want to salute everyone and send best wishess for all!!! Could be what you say Dana, but anyway...this about the domination...I think is the old school talking :D - just my opinion
I do know some history, and yep, the turk left us some vocabulary legacy..like all the other nations....which word is pure romanian?? :D:D:D |

So, i present you some words pure roumanian:
amurg = dusk băiat = boy brânduşă = crocus cioc = beak copil = child, kid a descurca = to unravel, disentangle doină = some kind of music gorun = holm a încurca = embarrasse leagăn = cradle mămăligă = dish a păstra = to keep raţă = duck stejar = oak traistă = peasant bag ţarină = dirt, fallow a urca = go up zestre = dowry I hope you join with this roumanian word!!!
