I was surfing on those old topic....and I want to say my small idea about this argument also if the discussion is so far, and I think, abandoned.
The idea of a universal language it could appear as "THE SOLUTION" about a lot of problem in this world...but don't forget that erase a language it means erase the whole culture of a nation. It means deleting the history and the characteristic of all the people... I love Ireland and I admire their ability to keep alive their ancient language: gaelic.

I don't think so. Because I think speak a language not only communiate with others but you can understand your country's culture.
I think speak English will be a popular thing in the future.But if we don't speak a mother language,how can we learn another language. So I think we must learn our mother language well and after that we can learn another language well too.Because you can know something earsier. |

Nice to meet you here! yes...they speak Gaelic and they LEARN it at school! I think this is a wonderfull way not to lose little (but little and little became bigger!) part of their ...of their.... of THEMSELVES! And if you go around (in Ireland I mean!) also a lot of signboard and road signs are in double language: English and Gaelic. In my opinion, that's great! Go raibh maith agath!

@Papa
Ahm, sorry, first I want to say: I love my mother language and I love my country. Its part of my country and I wouldnt throw it away. One universal language is no solution, you can believe me. The government or who ever would hunt the people with another meaning (Russia, China and thats in their own countries!) authors and so one. They mustnt be from another country, they just disagree and are hated and later eliminated by the government(s). And the most spoken languages were bruited by wars and fights. French was a long time the world language, german scientic language. English became most-spoken language after the WW II and through their former colonys. World languages are changing, english would do. "Let's speak English only, because it's the best language of the world" Everyone has a different meaning about that. I like english, but you shouldnt forget the history of England. Anglo-Saxons came to britain. And I know a person, he is from Germany and he speaks plattdeutsch (dialect, I dont know how that would be translated) and he hasnt learnt english, but anyhow he could understand and speak with english persons. So, he isnt english, doesnt speak english but anyway he understood And we couldnt have fun to learn other languages. We wouldnt have any culture, currency, traditions, mentality. And I love my country, my language and I never would change it. @Snoopy I would like to learn Gaelic but I dont know anything about it and how to learn.
