in my opinion the writing system makes the language difficult. without it, it's very easy. no pain with verb conjugations or irregular plurars hehe.. only difficult thing i can think of (besides the characters) are the counting words.. soo many. when i started learning chinese everyone was like 'how can you learn it? it's so difficult!' etc etc. they won't believe if i say that it's not difficult lol. afterall, characters/ideogrammes or how do you call them, aren't either so difficult. you can learn many so quickly..plus many of them share the same radical so it makes it even easier. plus if you look at some chinese text, you'll see that some characters are repeated over and over again.
i nearly forgot about tones.. they are over rated. it's not so difficult. you just have to get used to them. the thing that one syllable can be pronounced it five ways makes people scared of chinese. it isn't any more difficult than saying one syllable with five different vowels. try hehe. so in my opinion, not so difficult ![]()

Today, I looked at http://www.pkucn.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=60&page=4, and got to know that now the Chinese input system on computer and internet is on change, and many new software can even be created by cyberexpert himself, and more are created by these organizations or companies, they post their methods on the language forum and compete with each other for their own edges, and they are displaying such a colorful world of Chinese input system that, I believe in the near future, some more internaitonal Chinese writing system could be created and you foreigners would not be threatened by the writing demons.
