Wink Travel to Spain and Italy from USA

I hear there are several websites that offer great prices on flights and lodging to Spain and Italy. Does anyone know of any?

Also what should a newcomer avoid to not get ripped off? No one wants a tourist trap or to be taken advantage of.

I would give good advice to anyone coming here as a same favor.

I need to find out how long a flight would be from Houston, Texas to Madrid for example.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ciao!

From Texas I would Imagine like 14 hours. I dont really know, it would shorter from NY where I live because its just over the Atlantic but you gotta cross the pacific and asia and africa and then Europe. If you find a great deal and place let me know because my husband and I want to vacation on the Mediterranean.

Wink Grazie!

Thank you Heather!

Sorry it took so long for me to answer! I imagine most people outside of US do not know how we here in US can get there in a inexpensive and convenient way.

Then I was hearing news that one of the most popular Italian airlines is havig many problems right now. Air Italia I think is the one.

Mille grazie amica,

Cinema

Hi,
the better way to visit places is to ask people that live there. I don't know if is considered spam or advertising but I suggest you to check out this site:

CouchSurfing

is a "community of travellers". You can ask to be hosted free by people in their places or just ask them to show you the city, or just get out for a coffe. It's a great community and people are very easy going and fun.
For the flights, I really don't know from America to Europe, but once in europe if you want to move from spain to italy or italy to spain I suggest you ryanair. Is cheap. And for some period they have special price and you can get a two-way ticket for about 40€.

Hope it helps,
Bye

Thank you Matloc,

Skyscrapercity.com

Is another excellent source for that info. I occassionally ask those that live in those cities what its like. I often wonder why a site like that one has so many more users than this one? It seems almost every city in Italia has a person or more discussing their own towns. Maybe Berber is just not too well known?

I also heard somewhere the other day that Italian people are very private. Thats why I do not push it. I respect everyones cultures. I only ask basic generic questions anyway.

Grazie!

Hi Cinema! Sorry for my late...
I red other's posts and...yes: if you want a cheap way to move from Spain to Italy (or viceversa) my suggestion is to use Ryanair (Ryanair.com - Book your cheap flight, hotels, car rental with ryanair.com) low cost company good for short trip. Many times you can find 2ways trip where for the first trip you pay only 10 euros (for example) instead of the whole cost. Little note: Ryanair use airport usually far from the city center (for example for Milan: the airport of Orio al Serio is closer to Bergamo!) so check where you want to go and where the airport is!

About Alitalia (yes, is our flight company) I don't know what to tell you because Alitalia is having veeeery big problems and you can light on strike, delay or cancelled flights....its a drama!
Last year, when I flight from Milan MPX to L.A. I use British Airways with intermediate stop at London Heatrow.
You can use Expedia (Expedia.it or .com as you prefer!) to check tickets price!

The most compllicated thing is, in my opinion, on choosing th hotel: Italy (I think Spain is the same) is very expensive on bedroom. Is not the same in US where you can easily find a room for 4 people at the price of less than 100$ for room. The best thing is to choose a city/town and ask if someone know some good and cheap hotel!

Another tips: If you want to rent a car, remember that gasoline is veeeery expensive in Italy! Than you need an Italian translation of your driving license and..remember also that Italian bigger streets has usually no more than 4 lanes, not 8 or 10 like in US!!

Ask about any dubts!
