Wink USA people on this forum?

Its hard to tell how many of us Americans are on this forum. In fact I just ran across this topic and thought I could add something.

The question can apply to any country in the world. You can ask a million people and everyone will have a different answer. It all depends where you live in the US. I am in a large city that is very cosmopolitan and crowded and modern. I have lived here most of my life but also in California.

Houston is where I am now and you can live very econimcally here. We all have our little problems though. We are so close to the ocean so we are more likely to get hit by big, bad storms! Yikes!

When I lived in Los Angeles, Ca we always had earthquakes and tremors, so you see no matter where you are theres something crazy. Right now in Texas it is so breezy and summerlike its unreal! We are supposed to be in winter.

Hope that helps! Come on more USA people reply to the questions!

Ciao!

1)I love the mall and department stores so I try to only go to the big ones but there are smallers sized stores to by clothes and retail items in.

2) I have been known to snack on a brownie for breakfast. There is dessert for every part of the day here, so definately ifyou want cookies, donuts, brownies, etc you can get them in any restaurant or diner. I recommend Eggs and Bacon with Home Fries or Hash Brown. Drink an Orange Juice with it. THE BEST

3)Yea, is there any other way to watch TV. With Satellite and Digital cable you can choose which ever package you want but I am a fan of the National Geopgraphic channels. Discovery and Animal Planet are my favorites and then we have a bunch of Nicklelodeons and Disney channels for the children.

4)It depends on where you watch the movie. If it is the theatre...no commercials. If you are at home watching TV and it is not a MOVIE channel you will get commercials every 7-9 minutes or longer if the movie is long. If you are watching a movie channel ...no commercials.

5) In New York children have sooo many vacation breaks during the school year. First off they do not go to school during the summer...(end of June to the beginning of September). Winter and Spring Vaction last about a week each. Spring vacation is in April and Winter vacation is in December. Various Jewish Holidays the kids do not have school for the length of the holiday. Also we have day breaks for Independence day, Presidents Day, Martin Luther King Day, Thanksgiving, Labor day, Election day, Memorial day. Some of them are three day weekends.

6) I do not understand question 6 very well, but I believe in all states they recognize national holidays. The weeks for Spring and Winter Vacation may vary. Catholic schools and private schools do not recognize Jewish holidays...Only Public schools.

1) Is it true the malls and stores are so damn big in the US? Or do they also have some 'normal-size' stores?
2) Is it true people breakfast every morning in a sort of fastfoodrestaurant with cakes, brownies etc.?
3) Do you have over 200 tv-channels on your telly?
4) Is it true in a movie, or whatever you're watching on tv, you get commercial messages every 10 minutes?
5) From when to when do American children have vacation in your state?
6) Does every state have it's own right to decide when children have vacation? Or decides the city itselfs that?

All right, i'm full of questions, but right now, I can't make them all up . Oh, my last question:
What is a good school to learn about MARKETING (advertising and stuff like that)

I really hope you will and can answer my questions.
Greets from Holland, and my - Kevin -.

BTW: the grammar of question #6, is that correct? I'm questioning it.
BTW2: the other reason i have so much of this questions is because we really don't learn about the states.. We only learn about (boring) England.

1. We do have huge malls, and then there are smaller stores. One of my personal favorites is Wal-Mart. (VERY American... you must go to one if you come to the States!) Most of them are quite large, but they have everything. It's almost like a mall, but all in one store, and it's a lot cheaper than the mall!

2. It's possible to eat breakfast every morning at a fast food restaurant, but many of us eat at home for breakfast often, too. Popular home-made breakfasts include but are not limited to: cereal, waffles, pancakes, french-toast, pop-tarts/pastries, eggs, toast, bacon.

3. Some people do have over 200 channels. I think a great deal of people only have about 60 or 70.

4. I think it depends on the station, but I'd say it's more like every 15 to 20 minutes... I don't count, I suppose because I'm used to it.

5. Some things for school are run by the state, but most things like this are determined for the school system, which is run by a city or county. In my school system, children started vacation in the middle of May, and I think go back to school in the beginning of August. It varies a lot by different systems, and some schools even go year-round.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what a good marketing school would be, but hope I answered most of your questions, and I hope you find a very good marketing school!
BTW... #6:
6) Does every state have it's own right to decide when children have vacation? Or decides the city itselfs that?

"It's" should be "its" in the first sentence. It's vs. its is a very tricky part of English, and I know LOTS of native speakers who confuse the two. My rule to remember is to never use it's unless you can replace it with "It is." If you want to show possession, use its.
And the second sentence would be "Do the cities themselves decide that?" Or "Does the city itself decide that?"
Those are tough phrases. You have very good English! Keep it up! =)
