Hi All,
Hope someone can help me. I have just had a Baby and apparently I have to decide the chinese name that my generation will follow as its the first born male in my generation. Problem is we didnt do it when we registered our babys name on the birth certificate. We named him Finn Anton .... Anton being his middle name. So what we would like to do is make AN the chinese name for the generation ie An-Ton. Does AN have a chineses meaning and if so what does it mean? Hope someone can help!! Kaleon |

Hi Kaleon,
Don't worry, in Chinese the most frequent caracter pronounced "an" (安) means "peace, calm". If you're interested in the meaning of other characters pronounced "an", you can check on this link : http://hmarty.free.fr/hanzi/ Tape "an" below "search in pinyin". Sandrine |

Sangdeli is right and "安" (peace) is also a common character found in chinese name.
However, the name Anton resembles the sound of "安同" (An-tong). If your surname is Lu (陸), the name will become "Lu An Tong" which is also the name for Ketamine hydrochloride (氯胺酮) in Chinese. I'm sure no one will take this drug name for a young baby.... :> |

Hello Kaleon,
Congrats on the birth of your first baby! Just want to say "安" (an) is a really nice character and can be used to create a lot of good names. Because "An" in Anton is pronounced more like "en", I feel the character "恩" (en) can also be an option for you. It means "kindness, affection, compassion," etc. If you need more ideas on names for babies in the future please feel free to let me know. |
