Default New to the forums, and I've got a question...

Hello. Im am totally new to this forum and I found it doing a good search for language forums, I did a search because I have something that I want translated and I was hoping this would be the place for it to happen. So heres a picture of it...

If you can tell me what language that is, what those symbols mean, and what that thing is I would be greatly appreciated.

p.s.- Sorry If this is in the wrong topic.

Lightbulb Meanings of a coin

Hello Skizzarz,

No worries. You've definitely come to the right place. Sorry about the late reply though. The image you posted is a coin from the Ching or Manchu Dynasty (1644-1911A.D.) from historial China. The characters on the top and bottom of the coin combined says "Ken-Lon", meaning the period/reign of Emperior Kenlon" (1736~1796A.D.). Kenlon was supposedly a wealthy and relatively peacuful time according to historical literatures I have read. So this coin is probably left from that period, if not a modern replica. The character on the right (tung/tong) means "open, passable, general, common, etc." while the one on the left (pao/bao)means "treasures or valuables". Together the two characters mean the coin was circulated in the period of Kenlon. Today ancient coins are treated like lucky charms as they are believed to have power that can chase evil spirits away. They are often used in decorative artworks or fashion assesories. Hope this is helpful..
