Learn new language/s

I hope that is not an O.T. ...I don't know where to put it otherwise!

I noticed there are A LOT of people who speak A LOT of languages:
1) I admire you all!!

2) but.. how you do???

However..I read somewhere about people who want to learn a new language from Internet....do you all think it's real possible??

I can't speak for the majority of people here but I learned english and french very early thanks to my parents. This was done by repeating phrases using books and building a vocabulary of equivalent phrases. I also attended school in France, the UK and Belgium.

Also, what you can do is try to watch dvds in another language with subtitles, always forcing yourself to listen and only read when you don't understand. And, corresponding with someone abroad helps a lot.

The internet can certainly help. There's loads of free material out there. However, ultimately it's up to you to get books and videos to actually step as early as possible from passive to active understanding. Learning to speak a language can be hard to begin with but it's what will help you the most afterwards.

P.S: Some people have learned a language through a passion. For instance, I've encountered a few people that learned English through music, computers or video games.

i think, if you really are interested ( i think that's why you're here hm?!

), you can learn many languages ( me too, i want to learn much MORE!!!:D)

and if you're sure about the pronounciation of a language ( i am not really satisfied with those pronounciation-exercices you can find in the www), internet can help you, yes!

i agree again, i learn really much with the help of some music, because i am always interested in the meaning of the song..

@JimP: you have great ideas, nice that you share them with us

me, i changed the language of my mobile for some time to french, that was also helpful to learn ( but attention, that can cause BAAAAD things if you misunderstand something

Its a big fortune have someone who speak a good english beside..I attended a school too, in Italy..but the problem is have the possibility to practise it!
Your suggestions are very helpful! I'm use to try to translate liryc's songs, read english book or newspaper...but I'm not so good on watching dvds in other language: I have to force myself and do it!

Yes! I think this is the better way! I try to use this wonderful forum to write, write and write...also if I'm not so good!!!!

I think this is too dangerous!!!!!!! I risk to have not the language improoved... and I risk to have my mobile lost!!!!!!!

So...thank you guys! If you have some useful web links that you want to share..I'll be glad to use that! I'll continue to exercise with book and dvds for now!
