Lucio Dalla : Caruso

I've sent you a PM but i'll post the translation here as well for others to read.
Also there's some corrections.. this is the good translation. I've had some problems 'cause the lyrics are a bit in Italian and a bit Napolitan the song is great, both music and lyrics . Qui dove il mare luccica [here where the sea glitters] E tira forte vento [and the wind blows strong] Sulla vecchia terazza [on the old balcon] Davanti al golfo di surriento [in front of the Sorrento Gulf (which is near Naples)] Un uomo abbraccia una ragazza [a man holds a girl in his arms ] Dopo che aveva pianto [after crying] Poi si sciarisce la voce [he makes his voice clear] E ricomincia il canto [and the singing starts again] Te voglio bene assai [i love you so much] Ma tanto tanto bene sai [really so much] á una cantena ormai [it's a chain by now] Che sciogliei sangue dint’e vene sai...[(this is not Italian, this is Napolitan!) that melts your blood in your veins] Vide le luci in mezzo al mare [he sees the lights in the middle of the sea] Pensá alle notti lá in ŕmerica [he thinks about the nights there in the States] Ma erano solo le lampare [but they (the lights) were only the fishermen's lights] E la bianca scia di un’elica [and the white slipstreaming of a helix] Sent í il dolore nella musica [he felt the pain of the music] E si alzá dal pianoforte [and he stood up by the piano] Ma quando vide uscire [but when he saw the moon La luna da una nuvola [coming out from a cloud] Gli sembro piá dolce anche la morte [even death seemed to be sweet ] Guardá negli occhi la ragazza [he looked in the girl's eyes] Quegli occhi verdi come il mare [those eyes as green as the sea] Poi all’improvisso usci una lacrima [and then suddenly a tear came down] E lui credette di affogare [and he thought he would drown] Te voglio bene assai [see above] Ma tanto tanto bene sai á una cantena ormai Che sciogliei sangue dint’e vene sai... Potenza della lirica [power of the lyrics] Dove ogni dramma á un falso [where every tragic story has got a fake (??a fake what?) ] Che con un po’di trucco e con la mimica [that with a bit of trick and mime] Puoi diventare un altro [you can become somebody else] Ma due occhi che ti guardano [but two eyes looking at you] Cosí vicini e veri [so close and so true] Ti fan scordare le parole [they make you forget the words] Confondono I pensieri [they confuse your thoughts] Cosí diventa tutto piccolo [and so everything becomes so small] Anche le notti lá in ŕmerica [the nights in the States too ] Ti volti e vedi la tua vita [you turn and you see your life] Dietro la scia di un’elica [and the white slipstreaming of a helix] Ma sí é la vita che finisce [yeah it's the life that's ending] E non ci penso poi tanto [and he didn't think about it that much] Anzi si sentiva giá felice [instead he was feeling happy already] E ricomincio il suo canto [and he started his singing again] Te voglio bene assai [see above] Ma tanto tanto bene sai á una cantena ormai Che sciogliei sangue dint’e vene sai...

I post another translation from the web: is similar to Chiara's one but some expressions are different, so you can look to both interpretations! See you! CARUSO ------- Here, where the sea shines and the wind howls, on the old terrace beside the gulf of Sorrento, a man embraces a girl he wept after, then clears his throat and continues the song: I love you very much, very, very much, you know; it is a chain by now that melts the blood inside the veins, you know… He saw the lights out on the sea, thought of the nights there in America, but they were only the fishermen’s lamps and the white wash astern. He felt the pain in the music and stood up from the piano, but when he saw the moon emerging from a cloud death also seemed sweeter to him. He looked the girl in the eyes, those eyes as green as the sea. Then suddenly a tear fell and he believed he was drowning. I love you very much, very, very much, you know, it is a chain by now that melts the blood inside the vein you know… The power of opera, where every drama is a hoax; with a little make-up and with mime you can become someone else. But two eyes that look at you, so close and real, make you forget the words, confuse your thoughts, So everything became small, also the nights there in America. You turn and see your life through the white wash astern. But, yes, it is life that ends and he did not think so much about it on the contrary, he already felt happy and continued his song: I love you very much, very, very much, you know, it is a chain by now that melts the blood inside the veins, you know… I love you very much, very, very much, you know, it is a chain by now that melts the blood inside the veins, you know… (translation: author unknown)

well , i don't want to argue but being Italian myself i can say that
it means i love you. Unless in Naples they say it with a different meaning, this might be possible.

Can You help me translate following: Here where we met in evening The heart beats strongly inside me I fun to forget words confuse thoughts I fun forget hands sweet on me And power of your eyes, as the sea But today I must say what You I love You And you beat in of me And every day I feel this more and more Into Italian.
