Hi,
How to say ordinals higher than 1 millionth? Is the definite article (un) needed? un milionesimo or just milionesimo If there are smaller values in the number: 1) Do you say the millions part like a cardinal (like in English)? eg. un milione e primo or should it be: (un) milionesimo e primo 2) Should the conjunction "e" be said in ordinals, as in cardinals? eg. un milione e primo / (un) milionesimo e primo vs. un milione primo / (un) milionesimo primo Grazie, Swirlyman |

Hi Swirlyman.
what I've found about it is that the correct form is: "un milioneeunesimo", like if you say "milleeunesimo" for 1001°, or "quarantunesimo" for 41° and so on.... I've never heard in italian small ordinal numbers after the milion, but even if very seldom, you can hear milleeunesimo, milleduesimo, milletreesimo... millenovesimo. when you make the ordinal of a number that ends with one (1), you must prononciate it " -unesimo". hope being useful, greeting from Italy, Anna. |
