Hi. I'm Alessandro and I'm italian. I know very well spanish. I speak every day with my spanish-speaking friends and I know many different manners to speak (spanish of Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, ecc. ).
I open this topic cause I'd like choose a new language to learn. There are many languages I like. As I already know spanish, I'd like learn a language not romance. My problem is the fear! I scare the different alphabets at italian. And I fear this language is too difficult to learn in my country. Do you advise the way to not be afraid for the "strange" languages? Realte your experience. ![]()

Buongiorno Alessadro!
So if I understood well, you are Italian, and you speak Spanish and English, right? And now you are looking for which language to learn... Is there one you are particularly interested in? To help you not being afraid about "strange" languages, let me explain you about the foreign languages I've learnt so far.. After English, the first language I learn is Thai, because I was going to teach there. Thus, about a month before departure, I bought "Teach yourself Thai" and began studying the language. Although Thai is an "exotic" language that works with a tone system and a difficult alphabet system, it language is really simple by itself. You do not conjugate the verbs and there are no verb tenses (for as far as I am aware). When I arrived there, I could already negotiate and have basic conversations. I pursued a bit my learning there, but I haven't touch it since I'm back in Canada. After that, I learnt Spanish, mostly by myself, but you do not need to know about this language ![]() Since a year, I am learning the Arabic language. I would lie saying it is easy, but it is very interesting. There is a new alphabet to learn, some say it is difficult, from my point of you, it is very easy. Every letter are always pronounced the same. The only difficulty with writing Arabic is that short vowels are usually not written... The grammar is hard, but everything is logical. Despite all of this, the language is very beautiful and I really enjoy learning it ![]() You need not being afraid of learning a different language. The most important thing is to choose a language that you really want to learn. Once you get it touch with a language and discover how it works, it makes you love it! Finally, the more you learn, the easiest it gets ![]()

What do you think about Russian? This language has some similitude's with ancient Latin and some differences too. Alphabet is different than romance languages but it's not hard to get used to Cyrillic(for me is harder trying to say what I read... sometimes I just can translit it to Latin alphabet, but no reading).
I have been in touch with some Russian friends and I started reading about this language... it's an attractive language for me. Arabic seems to be popular too. I don't know this language and seems to be more difficult writing/reading it, but may be just because I don't know it. As Klowj said, the best option is the one which you really like and decisions is your. Just take it easy and go step by step. You'll see you get your goal, no matter which language you take. PD: Having someone to help you learning makes things easier ![]()

In these days I'm searching a new language and I'm interested in farsi and swedish. The problem is that in my town nothing teachs these languages. Another language I would improve is english. But, as in spanish, I would improve my english self-taught. In Italy not many teachers are able to teach the languages. ![]()
