Smile Language planing - Sprachenpolitik - politique linguistique

Hello everybody!

I'm studying Political science in Germany and I want to a research about language planing in the European Union. (Sprachenpoltik der EU or Politique linguistique de l'union européenne).
I see that you're speaking about languages and I think It can be interresting for me. I'm very interrested in this topic and I would like to know more about.
Do you have informations about this topic (books, theory, authors, examples in other countries...)? It will be very kind if you can find any information.

Thank You

Tchoubou
PS: You can answer in english, german, french (spanish?).

The subject you mentioned is really interesting. I'll try to find some publications to learn smth about it but probably in Polish so it might take some time.. I haven't heard of any ideas created in Poland but I know that this thread is still discussed and discussed. I think that reducing the languages is impossible and undesirable but there are discussions about multilingualism - as obstacle or alert. And after having read your post I found an ineresting page with quite wide bibliography. I suppose you can know it, but if somebody wants to read, this is the introduction to this article and link to read the rest underneath if smb likes:

"In the international legal order, the language problem has always been delicate. There is a sort of contradiction between, on the one hand, the needs of prestige and parity of States which push for multilingualism and, on the other hand, the problems of technical and legal rigour and financial costs, the solution of which is facilitated only by a reduction in languages".

(Reding Report, Legal Service opinion – European Parliament, 1990)
