I learnt from the TV news today that it's 44 C in Germany. In fact it's hot over the whole Europe. I was in Europe earlier before, and it's 38 C, already unbearable to me. How do people keep cool and safe under this heat?

Hi , indeed we suffer from very high temperatures. But the main problem is not the high of these temperature during the day. it's hard because the temperatures does not fall down when the night comes. For example here in Paris We got 34°C daylight and 22-23°C all night long. This keeping warm air. That's the main problem. If the night temperature would falldown to 14-15°C it would be ok. 35°C is hot but not unbearable, just ask people in Africa.
We got some solution , Conditioning Air, Shower lots of time per day. Drink a lot. .... See ya |

Hello, John.
34 C isn't too hot to me, since it's hot and dry, not hot and humid in HK, when 34 C is really unbearble, feeling you're in a steaming pot. I've experienced 38 degrees in Italy, but I can't imagine 44 C in Germany. I saw on TV some foreign tours had to change their itinerary because of the heat. In fact, not just in Europe, but all over the world. ![]() |

How English or Dutch people are recognized in Southern France ? They are the only one to open everything in summer ! A great uncle of mine particularly doesn't understand this reaction and says they're "fadas" ( more or less "nuts" )! But he exagerates : they understand rather quickly what's the best ! ![]() Last edited by Lina; 07-22-2006 at 08:44 AM. |

yea I am surprised that Europe is lately getting much hotter than Japan, it's really strange. Ironically it's been +28 around these days here, I don't need to use the air conditioner at all. But it will be hotter than now soon, I think.
Do you know why it has been hot in Europe? |

Yes it is hot. At work is it hard, but during the weekends it's nice. Dutch people are always nagging about the weather, doesn't matter what sort of weather it is.

People, esp the retired and elderly, would go to restaurants (breakfast, lunch, teatime), where the air-conditioner is super cool. For the rest of the time, the men would go to the library, while their wives are shopping in air-conditioned wet markets or supermarkets. In the afternoon, after eating in a chinese restaurant, they'll hang around in malls (super cool!) If they find places to sit, they can sit all day. In this way they can enjoy free air-conditioning without paying the bill. I can think of one place where you can keep your freshness and live in the dark: the church. ![]() |
