hello everyone
I'm an english student soon to be studying Electronics at university, where I will have the opportunity to learn a language at the same time (not connected to my course). The two I have considered are Mandarin and Japanese, but which? Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in the world, however Japan is the centre of commerce in the east and has alot of international influence. So i'm confused, does anybody have an opinion they can share with me? Thanks alot Kim |

Hello Kimoni,
Learning Mandarin is too tough! It's the toughest language on Earth! Average French is nothing compared to it! Japanese may be a better choice for a student. According to your future job, examining business economics is a prerequisite. That's my point of view. Bye! |

i've tried to learn a bit of mandarin of the internet
it's really very tough, for example, there is for ways of saying ma, each having a different meaning, get it wrong and ur sentence makes no sense. if you want a big challenge go for chinese japanese is probably better for commercial reasons but european countries are multiplieing their links with the chinese and china will replace the usa as no 1 in about 50 years. i'd say japanese is probably better for u good luck bye |

Thoug Japan is the center of commerce now,but everyone recognizes the development of chinese economy.Nobody can assure japan will be the center commerce in the next 50 years So if you want to use your second language longer, you had better choose mandarin.

I am a Chinese learning Japanese. I suggest you should learning the Japanese first if you are a westerner, because Japanese is easier to learn compared with Chinese.
of couse,if you learn Chinese first , you should have a strong will .But the benefit is that you can learn Japanese quickly, for Japanese borrowed many Chinese words. |

It depends on what you want to get from the new language, just enjoy learning some new stuff, or wanna get some advantage in the future, say, job hunting.
Anyway, the Japanese is kind of easy to get start with, but if you go deeper, it will become harder and harder. Mandarin is not easy from the very beginning, but it will become easier if you get to know how to deal with. It is what I feel like. ![]() |
