Hi there
![]() well as far as I can remember Pluiepoco wanted to create a medicine forum because he is interested in sciences, he let me know he would like me to give some explanations as I plan to be a scientist in a couple of year . Unfortunately I still had no time to post anything in here. So I am giving a first try (very basic level I guess most of you know it all) with this, but I bet it would be more efficient if people around would ask the questions tiggering them. This is about determining the sex of the baby since his/her genes... Human people have 23 different chromom pairs. In the 22 first pairs there is one chromosom coming fom the mom and the other one from the dad. The last pair is called "sexual pair" because it define the sex of the baby. That is: - the baby gets a X chromosome from his/her mother at all times - the one from the dad is whether a X or a Y chromosome If the baby gets the X from the father she will be told XX and then will be a girl if he gets the Y the baby is going to be XY and then is a boy Just wondering if somebody is interested, since I guess everybody knows that

Of course that's interesting to know!
Let you know that I didn't study that for example. I have chosen to study economics since high school, so ne scientific subjects are included. I guess that it's the same in France. In preparatory school, we didn't get to that level, and I am sorry to say that almost all my scientific knowledge has vanished. May be I just need to recall it back.. Nice try FD, keep going for the sake of ignorant people like me. |

You are not ignorant Asma, you just chose to study something else
following what you like and you want to become... which is the most important to meI'll be glad to answer your question in case you have some ![]() And I'll try to keep on posting some thread like that

Thanks a lot Fd :-)
I won't hesitate to come here to ask about any scientific facts that come up to my mind. I saw your thread while passing by in a hurry as usual, and thought I'd comment. Do post whenver possible, I personnaly understand that it's hard to focus on everything at once :-) Have a nice evening, iftaar is in a while See ya!

So whether baby is born boy or girl is determined actually by its father.
That is, women only provide X chromosome, but men X and Y, but you know, to form a baby, X must meet Y to combine and synthesize into genes, and then ... them...tissues and organs and at last human body. Note me if I was saying wrong. In China's old times, baby girl was not preferred by a family, because Chinese family wanted to produce more labour men, which must be born male, for that in Chinese thinking, women couldn't do much labour work, and for women, they had to rest in home and do housework to serve her husband and children, that was all she could do, but now you see, world is changing and women can also have her carreer and some of them even do greater than men (this will be discussed later), wait and think... so Chinese family usually had the choice to boy, but if this failed, the couple would scold the wife, why did she carry the evil elements which produced a girl!!!! And Now we know that saying is ridiculous, but at that time it was true!:-)So everything is clear, and many commerical ads say that if a husband do a specific thing or act in a specific way in his marriage life (avoid vulgarity), he would produce a boy or girl later, but I doubt this. Would you? ??????? |

Quote:
To start from the cell (which can be considered as the unit in body construction) each one of us come from a single cell: when the spermatozoid meets the ovule it makes the first cell of the future baby. Then this cell has a nucleus in which there are 46 different chromosomes. They form 26 pairs, which means every chromosome has a twin which is: there are 2 chromosome number 1, 2 chromosome number 2, 2 chromosomes number 3 and so forth until 23. In each pair there is a chromosome from the mom and the other one from the dad. Chromosomes from a same pair are identitcal. The last pair is the sexual pair, which means it is whether XX or XY. depending on what the father gave. Now on each chromosme there are several genes. Basically each gene of each chromosome codes for a different molecule of your body. Let's say XX and XY do not express exactly the same genes, so that it gives whether girls or boys. Hope I have been clear to you pluiepoco and to others ![]() and for those who would like more details please ask, this a huge summary, which does not reflect the exact reality as we know it nowadays
