OOPS, my fault.

So, are you from North Africa? Where/how/why did you learn Berber/Arabic/English?

Hello again

Yes, I am Moroccan. I am natively Berber/Arab, so I normally speak those two languages. Not all Moroccans are Berber though Then I learned English since high school, after French in primary school for sure!

Among those languages you stated, which ones do you consider yourself fluent at?

Morocco... Casablanca! You probably get that a lot. Sorry. American Classic, I couldn't resist.

Wow, so you speak 4 languages? That is incredible.

Well, of 11 I listed, with my no’s, I only speak English fluently. I am a bit ashamed to admit it. I took German class in high school and Spanish in college, but I have a very hard time learning from books. I’m not stupid, I graduated college with a 3.8., and I am a good reader. Actually, I read about two books a week, but it is recreational. I learn by hands on and listening. All the Spanish and German I learned was from listening to people speak it.

I’m really weird in the sense that if you tell me something once, even if it is an off the cuff statement, I’ll remember it forever. For example, one day at work, several of my friends and I were on lunch break. My friend Pete ordered a salad and saw the tomatoes were diced rather than cut in wedges and said, to my friend Grace, “They should wedge the tomatoes so people who don’t like tomatoes can pick them out easier.” Meanwhile, I was in a conversation with someone else. So, about a year later, a group of friends and I went out to eat after we left the bar, and Pete had to use the restroom. He told me to order him a Greek omelet and headed for the restroom. When the food came he said, “Oh man. I forgot to tell you to get it with no tomatoes.” He opens it up and wah-laa, no tomatoes. OK, boring story, but I thinks this explains the way my brain works.

I will forever remember how to say “no” in Berber and Arabic and I will forever remember that Berber is spoken in North Africa. My brain is like gum, everything just sticks.

I will say this about German and Spanish. I can cuss someone out like no other in German and Spanish and no one would know I am not fluent. I do know enough Spanish to hold a small conversation. The only French I retained is simple greetings and a not so nice question I learned from the song Lady Marmalade.

Question

By the way... do you think you can teach me some basic Berber? I think that would be a cool thing to learn.

I'm also sure that in Netherlands, people say "Nee", i'm really sure because i know someone from this forum who said it to me, and because a journalist made "a game with that word", because it sounds like "nez" in french. But, maybe your no is right too
bon courage,
Oleg Malyenson.

Urm.. 'no' isn't 'geen' in Dutch. I would change it to eight languages.
-Edit- You're right. 'Geen' means none.
-Another edit- The Russian 'no' is 'njet'. Make it seven.
