Hi Hadiya
and welcome on the forums

Hope you'll find around these parts what you are looking for. We are not specialised in trade though we rather like translations

How many languages both of you think it's necessary to begin a trade business?
And between french or german, which of those is most spoken in world?

You dont need zillions of languages to start a trade business, you'll treat with people speaking your own language or hire interpretes, that's not a problem nowadays.

French is more spoken than german, though in an economic point of view I am wondering if german would be a better choice

I agree with you...it's not necessary a zillion of languages, but i think you need to know, at least, 4 languages to work as a translator or begin a business trade.
English, Spanish, Portuguese ( my mother language ) and German ( as you said considering the economic view ).

To start a trade business in China , English is enough. As trade business man language is just a tool , experience of the business is more important. If you don't know the language , as TH FD said “hire interpret “, it is very ease to find a person who know English and also work on the trade business job at the same time .But as a translator may be different.

English is the most popular foreign language in China, if one Chinese can speak one of those language ,French or German, he will get very nice job.

In trading, the most effective and convenient means of communication is a language understood and used by both buyers and sellers. So the first thing is choosing a common language. It must be confirmed by two parties, if do these, then trading would be easy for each person. As we all know, English is the most commonly international language.
We could not say that English language will be replaced one day. Maybe Chinese language will become one of the international languages in the whole world.
