Lesson 8 Three new consonants. All of these are aspirated, with a clear h-sound. gha → घ, dha → ध , cha (chha) → छ. The ध/dha is dental, the tongue touches the upper teeth. छ/cha is in popular spelling written as chha. Cha is like English ch in church head. But the English ch sounds a bit more like tsy than the Indian ca/cha or cha/chha. A dot on a vowel (ं )represents nasal. In the most cases a m / म्. After learning the whole alphabet I will explain the details. मातरं नमामि (mātaraṁ namāmi) = मातरम् नमामि (mātaram namāmi) and वंश (vaṁśa) वम् श (vamśa).
