Can anyone help with the characters (which I believe to be Kanji) in the image below? (my apologies if I have inverted the characters, I am totally unfamiliar with Japanese)

I'm having issues with the first kanji, it may be because it's engraved they've abbreviated some of the strokes. However, I'm pretty sure the last two are

一刻 ikkoku

This has two meanings: 1) minute, moment, instant or 2) stubborn, hot-headed

If I had to guess, I'd say the 1st one kinda looks like , but there's no word for 冬一刻.

Sorry I can't help more. What is this engraved on?

Cricket - Many many thanks for your effort. It is engraved on a kiseru or smoking pipe which I would guess is around 100 years old.

Here is another view of the kanji.
