Hi,
The bottom entry is 'common/shared settings', so the language options should be in there somewhere. I think the menu item you're looking for will be: 言語設定 (language settings) Then English should be listed in English, but if not you're looking for: 英語 |

Hum, no joy here
The whole menu: 1 System info 2 Auto volume limiter system 3 Operation confirmation sounds 4 Screensaver settings 5 Brightness setting 6 Date and Time 7 Clock format 8 "Settings initialization" (by which I think it means 'reset settings') 9 "Memory initialization" (by which I think it means 'format memory') I see no real possibilities here . . . 8 & 9 are not clear to me, but I think they are the 'reset' buttons. If you're feeling brave and don't mind losing any settings you've changed, I guess you could give 8 a try and see what happens. Maybe reinitializing it will bring up language options? :/ The full menu from your last post, FYI: 1 Music settings 2 Video settings 3 Photo settings 4 FM radio settings 5 Recording settings 6 Common/shared settings Perhaps it is Japanese only? Unless somebody can see something I've missed? What's the model number? Maybe I'll be able to download the instruction manual . . . |

Thank you for your translation! I think that this time I need a bigger favor. I've contact both the Sony Walkman, and the Sanyo Xacti support in Europe, and they both mentioned I should contact the Japanese support. The problem is that I don't know how to do it.. Is there a chance that any of you can as it for me? It should be a firmware upgrade, or maybe just simple instructions of HowTo.
These are the models I need to change the language from Japanese to English: Sony NW-S615F Sanyo DMX-CA8 (Xacti CA8) Please let me know if one of you is working on it. It would be a great help! I would really appreciate it! |

no luckBoth are Japanese only. There are no firmware updates for the Sanyo that I can find. The Sony has a firmware update to version 1.01. Check the 'System info' menu to see if you already have this. (Instructions to download and install below) You can get the instruction manual for the English version of the Sony here: Sony Europe Customer Support Portal Â*|Â*Main Page type in NWZ-S615F as the model name. That should give you some clues. I can't find an English manual for the Sanyo. The equivalent model number for the English version is VPC-CA8, but it was only released here a month or so ago I think, so maybe the manual just isn't available to download yet . . . If you get stuck and can't work out how something works, feel free to post; one of us should be able to help you out when we get the chance! Instructions for updating the Sony's firmware: This fixes a problem with playing an MP3 file after playing an ATRAC file. It also provides some other improvements. (I am pretty certain this update won't add support for English) www.sony.jp/support/walkman/download/nw-s615f_fw.html Check the serial number on the back; this upgrade is for S/N 5000001 to 5098370. Download the file by clicking on the blue button at the bottom of the page. Create a folder on the C drive called "FWUP" and save it there. When it has downloaded, right click the file and go to properties. Check the size reported is 15,991 KB. If not, download the file again. Make sure any music etc. is backed up before you start. You need at least 20MB of free space on the device to do the update. Next connect the device to your computer via the USB cable. Close all other applications before beginning the update. Run the NW-S610_V1_01.exe file you downloaded. "Follow the on-screen instructions" Hmm, keep clicking 'next' (次) I guess. Hopefully that's all that'll be required. Don't unplug the cable during the update process. When the update is complete click finish (終了) Check in system info to see if the update worked. (btw, you do this firmware update at your own risk -- doing firmware updates there is always the possibility of ruining the device . . . ) |

Thank you again for taking your time and helping me! Unfortunately my NW-615F is already 1.01 and the serial number is above 5098370..
Regarding the Sanyo DMX-CA8 (Xacti CA8), I also found the manual, but it's hard to match it with the Japanese interface... I'll try though. I guess that if there will be any crucial things that I would like to change, I would post a screenshot again. Regarding the sentences you translated for me at the beginning of my post, I call my Japanese family today and they understood me! So thank you so much for that too! Well, perhaps one last question. Which software would you recommend to learn Japanese? Domo Arigatu! Tom |
