How would you say "Take control of your life" in Japanese Kanji?
Any idiomatic / idiosyncratic way to say it is welcome. Is there a Yoji-jyujugo that would translate it well? If it is going to be a long sentence, how would you say "take control"? Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
Well, the basic version of the full phrase "Take control of your life" is: 自分の人生を支配する jibun no jinsei wo shihai suru It is like "(He) takes crontrol of (his own) life" but it's not necessarily a descriptive phrase like that English suggests; on a book I suppose it's a bit more like "(Read this book) and you will take control of your life" Another option is to use the imperative. This would usually be: 自分の人生を支配しろ jibun no jinsei wo shihai shiro but I keep seeing this verb with the rarer imperative 'seyo': 自分の人生を支配せよ jibun no jinsei wo shihai seyo I think it is older-fashioned...(I found a book from the '40s which uses this version of the imperative in its title) Both of these are like a blunt command: "Take control of your life!" I'm a bit tentative suggesting these though, as I don't know what it 'feels like' to read them in this sort of phrase...it might be that it is too harsh and direct for the situation.. Another option is: 人生は自分で支配できる jinsei wa jibun de shihai dekiru I found a book with this title. It means "(One's) life can be controlled by oneself." To me, it is a softer way of speaking because it is indirect, just like "You have the ability to take control of your life." Simplifying it to just "take control": 支配する shihai suru "(He/she/you/it etc.) controls/commands" 支配しろ shihai shiro 支配せよ shihai seyo "Assume control/command!" 支配できる shihai dekiru "(He/she/you/it etc.) can control/command" But, with the ambiguity, I really don't know how well those phrases work... Sorry, that's the best I can do! |
