Need help identifying WWII Japanese battleship and captain

I recently found these documents at the estate sale of a former US Intelligence officer. I believe it to be a genuine, original Japanese battleship/destroyer log book from WWII dated to 1943. I was wondering whether anyone might be able to translate the name of the ship and captain's name, as it could be something important. Thanks!!

The ship's name: 五月雨（さみだれ）　samidare=the rain in May=early summer rain

The captain's name: 松原　滝三郎　（まつばら　たきさぶろう）　Takisaburo Matsubara

I don't think he was a famous guy.
