I want to get a tattoo carrying the same meaning as "let logic prevail" in Japanese. I'm currently learning Japanese however my translation would be horrid at best, I'm sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
![]() Edit: Wow, there are a lot of translation requests for tattoos. I wish I had something to offer the forum besides this request. Hope it isn't too bothersome. >.< Last edited by eloi; 05-30-2009 at 08:55 PM. |

I have tried multiple sources with no luck. Can't believe it is this hard to find someone to translate from English to Japanese. Looks like I really need to get to work on learning it. Anyways, If no one can translate, is there anyone that can tell me at the very least if it is even possible. I know the meaning we carry with our words can be totally different accross languages. So it may just be the case that there is no way to translate my saying. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you |

I should first say that I am not a Japanese native, and am therefore weary about idependently creating Japanese phrases that may later become a permanent part of someone`s body. However, I do like the challenge. So I will suggest 何よりも論理が成功する which means something like ‘‘Above all else, logic will succeed.‘‘ So it is more like saying ‘‘logic will prevail‘‘ English. I think it has the right implication, but I implore you to find a native and run it by him or her before you go under the needle.

I had a friend that communicates with some native Japanese guys through a video game translate the phrase. Here is what he came up with:
論理を説き伏せる Any comments are very welcome. I have yet to get the tattoo because I would like a second opinion. The guy the translated the phrase may or may not know what the intention since he is not native to english. ‘‘Above all else, logic will succeed.‘‘ This is close to my meaning. Although this tattoo is more of a self motivational piece. I'm literally telling myself to use logic as opposed to any irrational train of though. Thank you very much for the response Bakanagaizin. |

Huh that phrase is kind of baffling me. 説き伏せる means something like to persuade or to argue down. So I would translate that phrase as ‘‘logic will be persuaded‘‘ or ‘‘logic will be argued down‘‘. That seems like the opposite of what you want. It could be that the native speaker misunderstood the meaning of prevail. I think a second opinion on both phrases is a good idea.
