Default What was your reaction after you saw the execution of Sadam?

For me..
I was supposedto be celebrating that day because it was Eid..but when I saw the execution..I felt sad..angry..and confused.
I was sad to see a human being hanged...
angry because he was hanged on a day that Muslims were celebrating..
and confused..well...the US is there in Iraq to teach the Iraqi people about freedom , democracy, and the American values,etc..isn't it? ..but hanging a man like that and showing it to the world(even kids saw that) ..made me think..is that freedom?is that democracy?..maybe I should educate myself more about the US definitions of these two words.
By saying this I never justify what Sadam did..but it was the first time I saw someone hanged..and I wish I didn't.

Default Saddam's Exit Unfortunate

If implication were enough to prove some one guilty of his crimes.......then many would have been executed before their time.

After he was defeated by Alexander, in a famous meeting with Porus - Alexander reportedly asked him, "how he should treat him". Porus gallantly replied, "the way one king treats another". Clearly his army might be shattered but the spirit still remained.

Well in recent times , people have forgotten how to conduct themselves........truly unfortunate.

Whatever happened to "Innocent until proven guilty" ???

Hi all!

I just asked myself if a man has the right to punish and kill another man.

I´m not defending Sadam or his horrible acts commited in the past, because he did the same thing by killing innocent people.

He should be punished for his crimes, that´s for sure, but wouldn´t it be more reasonable if he was condemned to life sentence? It would be a kind of procrastinating and slow "death" for him. What will be the benefits of hanging Sadam?

Was his punishement a kind of "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth"?

These were just some questions that came up to my mind when I watched on the tv Sadam´s execution...

See you,

sflor

I'm not in favour of death penalty, no matter how bad could a person has been. In the case of Saddam, he was a genocide, that's for sure. He killed thousands of his compatriots, and he was a cruel dictator, but the trial he had to stand for, was a mere joke, pure rubbish, orchestrated by US.
And what has happened after the "Liberation of Iraq"? Do the Iraqui people feel glad and happy because of the "US help and support"? I bet they don't feel that way...
And to answer those Reema's questions, the US definition for Democracy and Freedom are:
Democracy: It is said from every country that leads a regime like us, and Exactly the way that WE want it, whatever that leads to...
Freedom: Liberty of the person, country or population from all that WE consider potentially dangerous for OUR commercial and political interests...

As a latin writer said: USA... the country where Freedom is a statue (Estados unidos, el país en donde la libertad es una estatua, Eduardo Galeano)
