In Indian/Asian culture, love has its own place. It is deeply ingrained in the philosophy and hence it has many shades and many metaphors. Each has its own sociological-philiosophical-spritual and mythical background, the subtle nuance of which can only be appreciated and assimilated in a course of period of integration with the unique Asian/Indian culture.

There are words from different cultures...some are from Persian, some are from Arabic, but the Indian culture has appropriated and assimilated all.

Apparently in Hindi इश्क़ means "love" in passion meaning. Is this exact? And is there a translation of this word in Sanskrit?

Yes. This is right. The sanskrit equivalent is प्रेममद

I shall like to disagree with my friend "drkpp".
Ishq is not प्रेममद (Premmad). इश्क़ (Ishq) is love, only love - only प्रेम (Prem), and not the Premmad, as he says. Premmad is obsession, pure and simple.
Premmad, as a word, is not in currency in Hindi/Urdu.
Premmad is at best equivalent to Junoon, which is derived in Urdu/Hindi from the celebrated Arabic love-story Laila-Majnu, where the protagonist, Farhad, obessessed in the love of Laila, left all the material comfort. He became Majnu, the Obsessed. In original Indian culture such persons, infected with the प्रेममद (Premmad), i.e., obsessed, are called Jogi (Male) or Jogan (Female).
Lastly I would like to assert that in Hindi इश्क़ (Ishq) is simply प्रेम (Prem). While the word Ishq came from Persian, it is in currency (Interestingly, as a word, Hindi itself came from Persian). So, one can use anyone - इश्क़ (Ishq) or प्रेम (Prem). It is a matter of convenience!

He has asked for sanskrit equivalent of love in passion which is ishka in urdu. In Sanskrit it translates to premamada. It has both meanings obsession & passion decided by the context in which it is used.
