Hi,
I am trying to find out if SAANVI is a Sanskrit name, if so could you tell the meaning of this and what is the origin of this name (like which shloka/ verse). In some baby naming sites they have given the meaning as Name of Godess Lakshmi .. is it correct ? Thanks, Prakash |

I wanted to find out the meaning of name Saanvi. I wrote to samskrita-bharati, an organization that works on bringing Samskritam back into daily life. Welcome to Samskrita Bharati
I got this reply from them and thought it will be helpful to everyone. Regards, Shrinivas Bhat "namste srinivas ji, as u've rightly deciphered, saanvi can be split into sa + anvi. sa means along and anvi is follow/followed. its a veritable samskrit word meaning one who follows or, more rightly (perhaps) one who will be followed. the meanings of lakshmi, earth, and so on are an extension of the same, since their birth were also followed by others. lakshmi being followed by other rare precious gems from the milky ocean-her birth place, and bhumi whose birth makes all others' births to follow." |

This thread caught my attention recently as one of my friend named his daugter as Saanvi and being a Sanskrit afficianado, I wanted to find the root of this word and here is what I see.
There is no word called SAANVI. This is a letter coined by someone who call themselves as Sanskrit Scholars and misguide people on Sanskrit Language. Just to make sure I had consulted my seniors' to find any reference to this word in host of vedic literature but even they admitted that this word does not exist, so there is no question of SAANVI being LAKSHMI or Mother EARTH. I urge people to stop falsification of the Sanskrit words or literature, especially by Numerologists to create some kind of Hype in todays generation. Sanskrit being the mother of so many Languages does not require any more Hype. This is my belief, people are welcome to reply to this thread. |
