Translation to Sanskrit for Tattoo
Hello everybody! I’ve found two wonderful wise sayings and I’d like to get them translated into Sanskrit. Could anyone help me? Here are the two sayings: 1. Those who want to transcend their own selves must descend into themselves. 2. Don’t betray your child-like quality! It is like a gold mine under the debris of your problems (troubles), of your fears… - it is like a sun that never dies out. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Hi I would really appreciate some help, my husband and I would like to get this Shanti mantra as a tattoo for our anniversary and I have found some translation websites but we really want to get it written kinda sideways and because of that we have had some problems. We also would like to get--"Neil and Cynthia September second two thousand eight"--at the end. And I'm not sure if that would be bad to do if it would take away from the integrity of the mantra. We also are not sure why in the translation that we got the Om isn't there at the beginning. I know all mantras start with Om but my husband thinks that we should put it at the end as well once its in Sanskrit. I'm not sure.
Shanti Mantra Aum sahanaavavatu Sahanau bhunaktu Saha viiryan karavaavahai Tejasvi naavadhiitamastu Maa vidvishhaavahai oM may both of us be protected together may both of us be nourished together may both of us work together with great vigor may both of us study be enlightening may no obstacle rise between the two of us oM neil and cynthia september second two thousand eight Here's how they translated it using We would like to know if this is correct and if you could shed some light on the om question and our names and date. And also if none of the words are capitalized is that ok? When I did the translation some of them didn't come up with capitol letters so we left them all out. We were trying to get this done today on our anniversary but I would rather wait to make sure it is correct. And by sideways I mean the whole paragraph not having the letters horizontal just in case that was confusing. We would appreciate any help you could give! Thanks Cynthia |

What you have is called transliteration & not translation.
Transliteration means writing the words from English language phonetically i.e. as per their pronunciation(the way they are actually spoken) using Sanskrit letters. It is used for Names only as your name does not change let the language be any. e.g. Neil = neel = नील Cynthia = sinthi-aa = सिंथिआ om = ॐ Please ask if you need any further explanation. |
