Post New thread for petra73 - famous quote from Bhagawad Geeta

hello
I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with a few things.
i'm geting a tattoo translated into Sanskrit and i need to check a few things 1st..
I have a fairly good idea of the meaning but need to double check as on the internet the explanations are slightly different depending on the website.
The quote is a famous quote from Bhagavad Gita.
The quote is:
नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः ।
न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुतः ॥२- २३॥
also on the 2nd line what does the last part mean right at the very end between the 2 vertical lines?

i want my sisters name tattooed at the start of this quote.
the tattoo will be vertical and i need the whole quote plus her name broken into 3 lines due to it's length.

Can the quote be split into 3 lines? also if i put my sisters name at the start do you know if i need to add anything to separate her name from the quote so it doesn't look like her name is part of the quote?

her name in sanskrit is: सोन्या which is 'Sonya'

I know this is a lot to ask and if you can't help i do understand but really do appreciate any advice at all as i want this to be right.

Thank you

Petra x

The literal meaning of the quote is:
Weapons do not cut it. Fire does not burn it.
Water does not make it wet. Wind does not make it dry.

The last two numbers are Chapter number and verse number.
It occurs in Shreemad Bhagawad Geeta Chapter 2 Verse 23.
It is not an essential part of the verse, being given for reference only.

can i just ask... if i were to add a name to the start of the quote and made it into 3 lines what would be the best way to do this?

I'm worried about possibly breaking up 1 particular word onto another line and need to make sure it will still read the same (if that makes sense) .. and also would i need to use something for example | to break the name from the rest of the quote?

Thank you

Petra

It is better not to add your sister's name to the quote. let it remain horizontal at the top.
Also it is not advisable to break the quote into three or as many as you like, to make it look symmetric, because it awkward considering the meaning of the quote. So I would suggest you have it written like this.
your sister's name horizontally.
The quote under it in two lines.
That would only be a tolerable attempt.
This is a free forum, so asking for such extras would be asking for too much. You may get it done elsewhere by paying money. Hope that answers all your querries.
