Default Translation request

Hi,

I was hoping to have the text of the word "so'ham" written in sanskrit. I believe the english transliteration can vary from soham to sohum, the one I am referring to has a crude tranlation of "I am Him" ot "It is I"

I would greatly appreciate any help offered.

Also, just out of general curiosity, are there varying styles of text that can be used to portray sanskrit digitally? English for example has many different fonts...I was wondering if there was a more aesthetically pleasing one that the blockish type used here.

My deep thanks in advance.

Default So'ham Redux

First of all, I’d like to convey my sincere thanks at Drkpp’s quick reply!

*************************************

I note on wikiepedia that so’ham is written as सोऽहं.

From what I can gather both words सोऽहं and सोऽहम designate phonetic sounds similar to that given by the latin “so’ham”. Because of this I am assuming that the latin “so’ham” is somewhat imprecise.

Is anyone familiar with the concept of so’ham and can tell me which of the Sanskrit transcriptions सोऽहं or सोऽहम or, as the case may be, another writing, is more accurately used to write, not so much the word “so’ham”, but the meaning and concept behind it?

Being an un-initiate pleb, I am reluctant to try to explain the concept of the word, so I will just copy and paste from wiki, if the added information helps:

Quote:
so'ham is the sandhi form of sah + aham, the nominatives of the 3rd and 1st person singular pronouns. sah can be prefixed to other pronouns for emphasis, as in so'ham "I myself; I, that very person" or satvam "Thou thyself; Thou, that very person", but in a literal reading, the phrase means "That - I" or "He - I", in mystical interpretations suggesting the identification or dissolution of the Ego with the "Other".
I also believe a more literal meaning of it is that the “so” portion is the sound made on inhalation, whilst the “hum” portion is the sound made on exhalation and intent is a focus of breathing during meditation.

A more poetic meaning is the perception of oneness of body and soul; to feel the human being in God and God in the human being.

Any guidance in this would be appreciated.

p.s. Just out of base curiosity, what does the “ऽ“ in both Sanskrit forms means. Is this the equivalent of the latin apostrophe?
