hey, can someone please help me with a tattoo translation as it means alot to me and i would be devistated if i got a tattoo with the incorrect translation on it.
"i will rise from the ashes" and if you could also translate "never give up" as i have been told it is trade numquam and iv been told by other people it is actually numquam trade so i am not sure which way around the words go. thank you so much |

"Trade" means "give" in the meaning of giving someone something in your will or giving a gift to someone so forget about that word. The right translation for "never give up" is Numquam cede (if the command refers to one person.) If the command refers to more than one person, the so-called 2nd.person plural imperative, it is Numquam cedite.
Another correct phrase is Noli umquam cedere (or Nolite umquam cedere as a command to many people). Numquam cede = Never give up. Noli umquam cedere = Don't ever give up. A third translation of never give up is Nil desperandum literally meaning don't despair or there is no cause for despair. You will sure get your first phrase too but I must go to bed now so you will have to wait for an answer from me or, preferably, from someone else in this forum. |

OK here is the first phrase: I will rise from the ashes => E cineribus resurgam.
Literally: from the ashes I will rise so it's just the word order that is changed. You don't have to change the word order. The first thing in the phrase is the thing you emphasize so you can also write "Resurgam e cineribus." Last edited by Cloelia; 09-25-2008 at 07:26 PM. |
