I'm a layman about art, but if "Art" mean something which give you some sensation, whatever sensation is, THIS IS ART.

Try to carefully read this few sentences while watching this picture, and say if this painting doesn't inspire anguish on yourself. I love this painting: is the one among a few that leave my mouth without word!

"The Scream" by Edvard Munch: Welcome back home to this masterpiece of art!

English:
I was out walking with two friends - the sun began to set - suddenly the sky turned blood red - I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence - there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city - my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety - and I sensed an endless scream passing through nature.

Italian:
Camminavo lungo la strada con due amici
quando il sole tramontò
il cielo si tinse all’improvviso di rosso sangue
mi fermai, mi appoggiai stanco morto a un recinto
sul fiordo nerazzurro e sulla città c’erano sangue e lingue di fuoco
i miei amici continuavano a camminare e io tremavo ancora di paura
e sentivo che un grande urlo infinito pervadeva la natura.

Norwegian(?)
Jeg gik bortover veien med to venner - så gik solen ned - himmelen ble pludselig blodrød - jeg stanset, lænet mig til gjærdet træt til døden - over den blåsvarte fjord og by lå blod og ildtunger - mine vænner gik videre og jeg stod igjen skjælvende av angst - og jeg følte at det gik et stort uendelig skrig gjennem naturen
