I read the offer for the position of associate curator of the Menil Collection with great interest. I realize that I do not have all of the necessary experience for this position; nevertheless, I do feel that I am qualified to perform the duties that the position requires successfully and well. I am presently enrolled in a course of study to obtain a DEA in Sciences of Art and Language at the EHESS in Paris. During these last three years I acquired a general training in anthropology and philosophy, which I am continuing to enrich on a regular basis. In addition, I also pursued studies in aesthetic anthropology, which impassioned me for the study of non-Western art forms, to which the majority of my research relates. Thus, my MA dissertation dealt with various art forms created in Sepik, the region of New Guinea where I would like to undertake more research, on the condition that my stipend or candidature were continued. My interest in the questions of aesthetics also equipped me with a solid background in art history, which in turn has enriched my DEA thesis for this year. The subject of this thesis is the relationship between “work of art” and “document,” which are topics that are closely related to the work of the museum. I believe that I possess not only the knowledge necessary for the position of associate curator of the Menil Collection, but also I have completed advanced courses in higher mathematics. Before dedicating myself to the social sciences, I pursued the course of study in the sciences required for admission to the “Ecole Centrale,” which is one of the best engineering schools in France. For these reasons, I feel that I am competent to fulfill the requirements of this job, in particular those that involve comparative and classification studies, in which I have already distinguished myself in my university work in France.
