This is really a question of whether or not you belive in evolution. If you belive in creationism, then god created either the egg or the hen and it doesnt really matter, although you could probably argue that god created fully formed living beings because in the bible he said to "go forth and multiply"....ummm....If you belive in evolution there was niether egg no hen first but a hen slowly evolved from another living being...laying eggs and evolving ...laying eggs and evolving and so on. You would have to form a "family tree" of sorts of the whole history of evolution. This is why there is no answer I think....
