3.5.2 Question without question word frase interrogativa sem palava de interrogação

Question without question word is always taken as general question.

In Portuguese language, the sentence pattern of a general question is the same with that of a declaration, with the only difference in intonation.

Such a question has a rising tone at start, and falling in the middle, and regains rising in the end, which intonation is opposite to that of a declaration ended with a falling tone.

The characteristic of a rising end is to rise at the last stressed syllable in the end.
