bu(不) plus a kou(口)pronounce "fou3(否)", which singlely mean No, but simply speaking 否is a classical written language to 不, while the latter is somewhat oral language. And further, 不can add to adj. like不是,不好,不错,不对; while 否can add to some verbs or adv., like否认,否定,否决。
And in my minds, 不is just a adv. expressing a disagreement, and in sentence it equals to "not";
but 否is a verb, expressing a strong objection, and in sentence it equals to "to object, or think it's wrong that...".

mm just noticed that 'shi' written with computer is a bit different from the form i learnt.. it has a one extra line before the long line 一.. while it has been ignored in the 'computer version'.

是,是,I don't think it's a bit wrong, you know that the computer inputing system is sometimes just ignorant, but when you change the style of Chinese words into another, you'll find the classical writting, since all the programmers don't know Chinese writing so much.
是is composed of a 日and 一,卜and a 人, so what's wrong?
